26th May 2020 | COVID-19 Service Update

Restrictions on travel remain in place globally. With news and regular updates being received from our colleagues globally, the Idwal service alert first issued on 27th January 2020 remains in place.

Our primary concern remains the health and safety of our colleagues and customers and their families around the globe and we continue to monitor the situation closely.

Service operations shall continue, and we aim to minimise any disruption. It may take longer for surveyors to mobilise in certain locations, therefore notice in good time ahead of attendance is recommended. The price may increase in certain locations; however, we aim to minimise any impact.

Idwal also seeks to minimize the surveyors time onboard the vessel where possible. Through effective planning in advance of the inspections, supported by the ships’ crew, we may request that specific documents are prepared in advance as well as, in certain cases, requesting crew to complete advanced inspection checklists and possibly even provide photographic evidence in advance of the inspection. These measures are designed to minimize the surveyors time onboard and ensuring that he/she is focused on critical areas of interest only.

In order to maintain the highest possible standards of health and safety, we continue to focus on managing operations following the COVID-19 outbreak and remain as committed as ever to ensure the safety and wellbeing of surveyors, vessel crew members, customers and other personnel.

As a result of this, we have adopted precautionary measures within our inspection and survey processes and procedures in accordance with the latest guidance information issued by The International Maritime Organization and The World Health Organization. Key features of this are social distancing, the use of personal protective equipment and a temperature check for the surveyor prior to embarkation on the day of attendance. More information regarding these measures can be found on our dedicated COVID-19 page on the Idwal website or by contacting a member of the team.

Earlier the UK Government announced stringent nationwide social distancing measures in efforts to combat the spread of the virus. The key points of the announcement, similar to other governments around the world, were to avoid non-essential travel and for businesses to work from home where possible until further notice. Schools and Colleges are also due to closed until further notice.

Due to this advice from the UK government:

  • The health and safety of our colleagues remains of paramount importance; therefore, we have now implemented home working for Idwal employees until further notice. Having been preparing for such an event in the weeks leading up to now, our colleagues and systems are well prepared for this.
  • With travel now restricted and exhibitions and events being postponed on a global scale, all planned travel and appearances at events are now on hold until further notice.

We shall continue to update our website and Idwal social media channels regularly to ensure customers can stay up to date with the latest information.
