Idwal Introductions: Jack Casey - S&P Executive

Tell us a bit more about your role at Idwal and your work within the S&P sector

As part of Idwal’s S&P team, I oversee and coordinate vessel inspections across Europe, working closely with clients who are buying or selling vessels. My role involves managing inspection logistics, liaising with our global surveyor network, and ensuring that clients receive timely, high-quality reports to support fast-moving transactions. With the pace of the market, responsiveness and precision are key—and that’s where I come in.

What attracted you to shipping?

Shipping has always been in my blood – my father was involved in the industry with the British shipyards and my godfather was also involved – I guess I like the fast paced environment where no two days are the same.

What makes the European shipping sector different to others?

The European market has long established heritage with many of the world largest shipowners based within Europe – makes it an interesting region.

What does project managing an extensive inspection regime look like?

It involves a lot of coordination, planning, and attention to detail – keeping in constant communication with clients to ensure that all requirements are met – always being available and ready to adapt when needed.

What’s one challenge you often see shipowners or brokers facing in your region?

Especially with S&P getting a report as fast as possible – owners need the report as soon as possible as you never know what might happen in two days – everything is constantly evolving

And what’s one challenge organising ship inspections around the world?

Logistics can be challenging – different time zones make it difficult on occasions but its great having a team globally that can assist so they can pick it up and help where needed.

If you could give one piece of advice to a ship buyer or seller, what would it be?

Preparation is key – ensure all documentation and permissions are ready in advance of the inspection.

If you could sail anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

The Caribbean because the water looks nice and the weather is superb.
