Benchmarking
Understand vessel condition in context.
Idwal’s benchmarking module transforms inspection results into comparative insight. By placing vessel condition within fleet and market context, it enables owners and operators to understand not just what a vessel looks like on the day of inspection, but how it performs relative to peers and how that position changes over time.
Built on standardised inspection data and the independent Idwal Grade, benchmarking provides a consistent and objective basis for comparison across fleets, vessel types, and technical managers.
From inspection outputs to meaningful insight
Individual inspection reports provide valuable information, but on their own they offer limited perspective. Benchmarking connects inspection outcomes across vessels and time, allowing condition to be interpreted in a wider operational and market context.
Within Idwal ID, benchmarking enables users to move beyond isolated results and develop a clearer understanding of relative performance, emerging trends, and potential risk.

What benchmarking enables
-
See how vessels compare - view Idwal Grades across your fleet and against relevant peer groups. Benchmarking highlights where vessels sit relative to market norms, supporting clearer prioritisation and decision-making.
-
Identify deviation early - surface vessels or systems that are beginning to diverge from expected performance. Early visibility allows intervention before issues escalate or value is affected.
-
Compare vessels consistently - monitor how vessel condition evolves across inspection cycles. Benchmarking supports continuity of oversight rather than point-in-time assessment.
-
Support strategic decisions - use comparative insight to inform maintenance planning, capital allocation, acquisition and disposal decisions, and longer-term fleet strategy.
Fleet-level and sub-grade benchmarking
Idwal's benchmarking operates at multipl'e levels to support both high-level oversight and detailed analysis.
At fleet level, users can view Idwal Grades across vessels and compare performance against market and peer benchmarks. Flexible views allow analysis by vessel or technical manager.
At sub-grade level, the benchmarking module highlights specific areas of deviation, enabling targeted investigation and more focused technical attention.

More than benchmarking
Benchmarking is fully integrated within Idwal ID and draws on the same trusted inspection data that underpins screening, defect management, and fleet oversight.
By connecting inspection outcomes across fleets and time, benchmarking helps turn inspection activity into ongoing insight and confidence in decision-making.
